Mangaone Caves Track
The public track to the limestone cave follows a poled route up a steep climb over farmland. Once past the first steep section, there are some amazing scenic views.
At the caves, wooden steps lead into the main cavern which has a small opening in the roof at the very end which sheds a small amount of light downwards. Two passages, approximately 3 metres above the floor of the main cavern, are reached by ladders. Glow worms can also be seen here providing you are quiet. The base of the cavern can be quite wet and muddy and if there has been a couple of days rain previous can be as deep as 12-18 inches.
